Master Gardener Program


Master Gardeners are individuals with a passion for horticulture, education and giving back to the community by sharing their knowledge of environmentally sound gardening practices with various community groups and organizations, through clinics, seminars, public displays and special projects.

This intensive 78-hour course is designed for the enthusiastic home gardener, providing up-to-date information on all the gardening basics. The course combines home study, classroom instruction and assignments.  Learn from other Master Gardeners and local gardening experts about a series of topics relevant to northern BC.

To pursue Master Gardener Certification students must complete all 12 workshops within the year the course is offered, pass the final exam and complete the self-directed volunteer component.

To become a Certified Master Gardener 70 hours of self-directed volunteering within your community over a two year period is required after completion of the classroom sessions. Master Gardeners assist in horticultural education within the community by doing gardening clinics, workshops, lectures or garden tours.  Master Gardeners may also work on research or community projects.
